Pisa S. Giusto Airport “Galileo Galilei” (LIRP)

Pisa “G. Galilei” International Airport  (IATA code: PSA, ICAO code: LIRP), is an airport located in Pisa, Italy. It is the main airport in Tuscany. It is named after Galileo Galilei, the famous scientist and native of Pisa.

In 2014, slightly approaching the threshold of 4,7 million of passengers handled, Pisa International Airport ranked 8th for passenger traffic amongst all Italian airports.

Scope of the work, entirely assigned to TE2C by the Pisa Airport Authority through public tender, was to rehabilitate and improve existing airside facilities and AGL systems to cope with a CAT II/III precision approach operations.

TE2C carried out the whole design lifecycle, from preliminary (2010) to final (2011) and detailed design (2012).

Preliminary, final and detailed design have been duly approved by ENAC the Italian Civil Aviation Authority.

The project was organized to allow works development and to keep airport’s activities.

Detailed design  can be itemized follows:

  • Rehabilitation and Upgrade of the main Runway pavement;
  • Rehabilitation and Upgrade of Overrun paved surface RWY22R;
  • Upgrade of Runway End Safety Area (RESA) extending from the end of both runway’s strips RWY04R/ RWY22L;
  • Construction of a new taxiway connection between runways thresholds RWY04R/ RWY04L;
  • Improvement and accommodation of runway Strip / Cleared and Graded Area (CGA), with relevant drainage system and new inner road;
  • Improvement of electrical power supply systems for air navigation facilities;
  • Improved Airfield Ground Lighting systems to cope with precision approach CAT II / III on the main runway RWY04R/22L;
  • Upgrade of existing hydraulic facilities and drainage system network improvement.
